Professor Jean Meyriat presented a short report on the follow up to the Euroguide. The first edition was produced in 1999 and was available in nine European languages. It was decided to produce an updated version, which took on a new urgency after the ECIA won the CERTIDoc project. The concluding date of the work, 31 March 2004, was dictated by an agreement with the Commission to achieve this within one year. Jean Meyriat was delighted to be able to confirm that this has been achieved. Decisions now need to be taken with regard to its publication. Who will publish it, in what languages and with what resources?

There were a number of responses to Jean Meyriat's report. Firstly everyone congratulated him on a fine achievement. INCITE immediately responded with an offer to translate it into Portuguese. Naturally ADBS will translate it into French. Of the remaining delegates, Aslib reluctantly declined to translate or publish it on the grounds that the first edition failed to sell. Aslib suggested that this was likely to be due to a combination of factors including the strength of the UK government's National Vocational Qualifications Certificate in library and information work and the dominance of the UK library association, CILIP, and its use of NVQs.

Jean Meyriat would urgently like to hear the views of other ECIA members.
