LEXIS-NEXIS launches Year 2000 database and alerting service

LEXIS-NEXIS EUROPE has announced the immediate availability of a new database devoted exclusively to providing information on Year 2000 issues. In addition, it has launched a Year 2000 alerting service that offers subscribers daily e-mail updates on important developments regarding Y2K issues.

As the year 2000 approaches concerns are growing amongst businesses about the `Millennium Bug' issue, and the time-sensitive needs of firms around the world to find solutions to the challenge. In short, Y2K compliance is now a vital business issue, with companies globally spending millions of pounds to ensure their computer systems continue to work on New Year's Day 2000.

And with news about potential Y2K liabilities and lawsuits – as well as new solutions – growing by the day, no company can afford not to monitor the situation on a regular basis.

To this end LEXIS-NEXIS has created a new Hot File (Y2KNWS) containing Year 2000 relevant information. Located in LEXIS-NEXIS' NEWS library, the new database allows users to search out and retrieve articles, transcripts and documents addressing a broad spectrum of Year 2000 issues, with coverage including items from CNN, Business Wire, PR Newswire, The Times, The Independent, New Straits Times, InfoWorld and Computer Weekly. Coverage dates back to January 1st 1997 and additional sources will be added over time.

For users who need to be constantly alerted to Y2K issues as they develop, LEXIS-NEXIS has also launched a Year 2000 Tracker. Compiled daily from a wide range of international sources the new Tracker delivers the most relevant newly published items to users every morning by e-mail.

LEXIS-NEXIS is the leading source of international online news information in Europe. In addition to international wire services like BLOOMBERG News, the BLOOMBERG Daily Market Summaries and Associated Press, the service offers access to a wide range of international newspapers, including The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau, De Stem, De Gelderlander, Söddeutsche Zeitung, Le Monde, Il Sole 24 Ore and Moscow News, as well as The New York Times.

Currently offering more than 13,800 sources of new and business information, LEXIS-NEXIS is unmatched in the depth and breadth of its information. The service adds more than 9.5 million documents each week to its more than one billion documents online. In fact, 120,000 new articles are added each day from world-wide newspapers, magazines, news wires and trade journals.
